During my time as Director for the AZ Queer Politics (JTPAZ) project at Trans Queer Pueblo, I used my design skills to transform ideas into tactile objects for our volunteers and leaders to interact with. For our Membership Summit in 2023, we decided to represent our budgets through a “tianguis” (a street bazaar); each project would represent a certain type of stall. “Herbs & Remedies”, “Stationary”, “Photography”, “Toys”, etc.

I chose “Bookshop”.

The JTPAZ’s material budget is a flexible budget to purchase items for urgent actions, impromptu art nights, or large community events. Water bottles and snacks, glitter and paint, caution tape or waterslides. The budget allows us to create welcoming and careful events even when what’s needed doesn’t fit in other budgets.

A “son” is a umbrella-term for the wide variety of Central, South and Caribbean musical traditions that fuse African, Indigenous, and European music. The title of this ~book~ in English is “The Streets: Music of the People”

The streets belong to the people.

“Where are the people?”

The people are in the streets demanding freedom!
