Queer Newsroom
For Trans Queer Pueblo, political education is its bread butter. One of our long held events for the AZ Queer Politics (JTPAZ) project was our “Queer Newsroom” event. As LGBTQ+ migrants and people of color, our voices are important and our perspectives necessary for honest and open discussions about political events locally and world-wide.
The program is rooted in Central and South American cultures and our wit and humor as LGBTQ+ people . I would often use embroidered-style graphics and high saturation colors to communicate the programs whimsicalness, as well as the style of our cultures.
The “Queer Newsroom” uses popular education (a teaching method for collective understanding) in its programing to help answer questions our community has politics, dispel misinformation, and bring on local experts and organizations. And we would make call-backs to Walter Mercado (a famous astrologer) for our zodiac activities.
